Lunch Kit

My return to work is only a week away! I decided that I should make L and I new lunch kits and found a great tutorial from the Pink Penguin blog. The tutorial is easy to follow, the project is done quickly (a bonus for me!) and I love how it turned out! I have the casing done for the cover but still have to pick up some cord to make the ties.

T-Shirt Dress with Tutu

I have seen a lot of tutorials on blogs about re-fashioning old clothes into something new and cute for kids. I decided to try my hand at it and turned an old T-Shirt into this sweet dress, to be gifted to the daughter of a friend for her 1st birthday.

How I did it:
-I turned the T-shirt inside out and laid a dress that is roughly 12-18 month size on top, lining up the necklines. I cut along the side seams, allowing about 1/2" for seams. I ended up making this a tank top style because I haven't mastered sleeves yet.
-Using a straight stitch, I sewed up the two side seams, leaving the arm holes.
-I turned under and sewed the allowance for the arm holes using this stretch stitch.

-I cut 3 pieces of tulle, about 3.5" wide. I did the bottom ruffle first and worked my way to the top one. For each ruffle I folded the end under and gathered the tulle as I went, using the same stitch. I folded the end under again once I had gone all the way around the dress.
-I used some of the extra fabric and tulle to make little flowers for the top and hand stitched them on.-The end!
